Received an IRAS GST Query? Do Not Rush to Reply Without Checking These Records
An IRAS GST query does not automatically mean your business has done something wrong. However, the quality of your records and response matters.
Before replying, make sure your company can support the GST position taken in its returns.
Records your business should be able to produce
- GST returns filed and working papers
- Sales invoices and credit notes
- Supplier tax invoices
- Bank statements and payment evidence
- Reconciliations between sales, accounting records and bank receipts
- Explanation for large, unusual or one-off transactions
- Documentation for input-tax claims
A rushed reply with incomplete or inconsistent records can create further questions. It is better to review the facts carefully and provide a clear, supported response.
